That's a little victory music to celebrate the fact that I have almost finished one of my two novels in progress. The third - and please dear lord final - book in my accidental cat-with-psychic-powers trilogy, 'Through the Woods.' A prequel to the unreadable 'Under the Wall' and the slightly better but still mostly silly 'Out the Door,' (available to read in its entirety free online at Goodreads - just click 'Read Book' underneath the cover on the right.)
This one is a little more varied and depth-having than the last two, but I must have typed the words 'Deinonychus' and 'Leviticus' more times, in the last two and a half years, than even the most seasoned paleontologist and minister, combined. The last thing a new author wants to do is get pigeonholed, so - true to form - I've written three books about cats, offset only by a short-story collection of mostly unreadable stories, and a failed attempt at sci-fi. (I say 'failed' because 'Formland' needs to be edited to high hell, and I don't want to do it. I spent six months doing it and, as I say, it still sucks to read!)
The light at the end of my literary tunnel comes in the form of 'Fiver Films,' the novel I can turn back to when I have got my cat book 'out the door' (har!). Already over 50k words, it's in pretty good shape and a fair shake better than my other books so far. As long as I get it finished in a satisfactory way, that is.
I've also got a new short story coming out in the April/May/June issue of 'The Storyteller,' a lovely magazine you can buy at this link: http://www.thestorytellermagazine.com/store.html In fact, I suggest you do!
I've written a fair number of newer short stories, which are all out at various locales in the hopes of finding homes. I will, I dare say it, take a 'break' from novels and write a few more of them before setting out on the next long book.
Anyway, that's an update - don't say I never did anything for you!
